Who I am…
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida, as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia. I hold a dual Bachelor’s of Art degree in Psychology and Criminology, and a Master’s of Art degree in Mental Health Counseling.
In addition to my graduate course work, I have advanced training in:
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Gottman Method
- Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
- Sexual Addiction Therapy
- Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Debriefings
- Sexual Assault Response
I have been working in the social services field for nearly a decade, in various settings to include inpatient psychiatric units, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, community mental health centers, provided home-based services and private psychotherapy practices. In these different settings, I have worked with survivors of domestic violence and trauma, as well as individuals struggling with depression and addictions.
Prior to answering the call to enter the behavioral health field, I served in the United States Air Force, working with culturally diverse populations. In serving individuals from different ethnic backgrounds, I am humbled that even though I work hard to understand a person’s situation, I acknowledge and respect that I will never know what it means to be in their shoes. I celebrate the fact that you are the subject-matter expert on YOU.
Being a therapist is more than just my chosen profession, but a part of who I am. I truly believe in the healing power of having a witness to your life experiences, and having a trusted companion to provide feedback and support. I have also learned that people do not care about what you know, until they know that you care. So in working with you, I will listen first, then ask how I can help.
