About Me

Who I am…

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida, as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia.  I hold a dual Bachelor’s of Art degree in Psychology and Criminology, and a Master’s of Art degree in Mental Health Counseling.

In addition to my graduate course work, I have advanced training in:

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Gottman Method
  • Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
  • Sexual Addiction Therapy
  • Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Debriefings
  • Sexual Assault Response

I have been working in the social services field for over a decade, in various settings to include inpatient psychiatric units, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, community mental health centers, provided home-based services and private psychotherapy practices.  In these different settings, I have worked with survivors of domestic violence and trauma, as well as supported individuals living with and recovering their life from the bondage of depression and addictions.

Prior to answering the call to enter the behavioral health field, I served in the United States Air Force, working with culturally diverse populations.  In serving individuals from different ethnic backgrounds, I am humbled that even though I work hard to understand a person’s situation, I acknowledge and respect that I will never know what it means to be in their shoes.  I celebrate the fact that you are the subject-matter expert on YOU.

Being a therapist is more than just my chosen profession, but a part of who I am.  I truly believe in the healing power of having a witness to your life experiences, and having a trusted companion to provide feedback and support.  I have also learned that people do not care about what you know, until they know that you care. So in working with you, I will listen first, then ask how I can help.
